Erik ten Hag confirms surprise Manchester United injury ahead of Brentford clash
Erik ten Hag has confirmed a surprise injury for Manchester United ahead of their Premier League clash against Brentford.
Manchester United are preparing for their return to Premier League action after the international break.
The team’s disappointing start to the 2024/25 season has placed them 14th in the Premier League so far.
Erik ten Hag’s men also remain winless in their first two Europa League fixtures, sparking concern among both fans and pundits.
Brentford’s visit to Old Trafford is a must-win fixture following the return to club football.
Ten Hag confirms Collyer injury
It was announced earlier this week that Kobbie Mainoo would be unavailable for the next few weeks following a muscle injury sustained before the international break.
Mainoo had started every Premier League outing beforehand and Mason Mount is also out of action following another recent issue.
However, despite these injuries, the inclusion of Jack Fletcher in the squad to face Brentford was still a slight surprise, while Casemiro and Christian Eriksen start the game.
Ten Hag has explained that the teenager deserves the call-up due to his development in the Academy but also admitted that injuries in the engine room played a part.
In fact, the manager confirmed that Toby Collyer has also picked up an issue that has kept him out of the game – giving Fletcher his first chance in the squad.
“We have injuries in midfield,” the manager told club media. “Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and even Toby Collyer.
“He [Jack Fletcher] is progressing and developing well.” The manager added when speaking to Sky: “He has to be ready, because when you’re on the bench, then you can be picked and then you have to contribute. But we are confident he can do it.”
Finally, Ten Hag said: “We want to continue where we were with two good performances against Porto and Villa, but we didn’t win and we have to score more.”
