Erik ten Hag breaks silence on £13m Man United star, it’s the message we’ve been waiting for
Erik ten Hag has broken his silence on Manchester United’s £13 million man, and it’s the message we’ve all been waiting for.
Manchester United have started the season poorly, winning just one of their opening three Premier League outings.
Erik ten Hag’s side are approaching their upcoming clash against Southampton this weekend and it is being considered as a must-win by many fans and pundits.
United will not have any injured players returning to the squad after Ten Hag confirmed that Rasmus Højlund and Luke Shaw would not be involved.
However, the United boss has finally provided an update on Tyrell Malacia’s situation after the left-back returned to the pitch for individual training at Carrington towards the back end of August.
Malacia was signed by Ten Hag from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022 for around £13 million and had a positive first season with the club before suffering an agonising knee injury.
After a botched surgery, Malacia’s recovery has been incredibly difficult. His last competitive appearance for United came in May 2023 against Fulham.
Ten Hag breaks silence on Malacia
There have been minimal updates regarding Malacia’s condition over the last year, but images uploaded of him on the training pitch last month were a positive sign for United fans.
Speaking to club media before the trip to Southampton, Ten Hag broke his silence on the 25-year-old’s situation and explained that he is ‘making big steps’ and could return to the fold soon.
“Of course, we want to motivate him to return, but it’s not so easy when you are so long away,” the boss said.
“Over a season now from an injury to return, but he’s working very hard, he’s progressing really well in this moment.
“He’s making big steps, so we think, at short notice, we can expect him in the team training, and he is a talent, it’s natural. I expect also, soon, he can return into games then.”
