Erik ten Hag brandished “insane” for Manchester United signing that Ruben Amorim should sell
Erik ten Hag has been brandished “insane” for making one signing at Manchester United that is causing Ruben Amorim problems.
Manchester United have endured a highly disappointing season, with Rasmus Højlund emerging as one of the biggest underperformers.
The Danish striker arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023, joining from Atalanta for a hefty £73 million fee. His debut campaign was challenging, yet he still managed to score 16 goals across all competitions.
Following a respectable first season, hopes were high that Højlund would push on and improve. However, the reality has been quite the opposite.
So far this season, he has found the net just seven times in all competitions, with only two goals coming in the Premier League. After 33 appearances, he is currently on a 17-game goal drought.
Beyond his lack of goals, Højlund’s overall performances have declined as the season has progressed. His concerning form has now sparked doubts over his long-term future at the club.
Yorke slams Højlund signing at United
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has slammed the level of Højlund, who has failed to prove why he can become a top level player in the future.
The treble-winner has also claimed that it was “insane” for Erik ten Hag to sign the Danish forward for such big-money in the summer of 2023.
“Even if you’re a prospect, you’ve got to show why you’re a prospect. Hojlund, I’m yet to see anything that suggests he’s the future number nine for Manchester United,” Yorke told casinobeats.com.
“He’s not even close. You defend people as best you can. You give people a chance, but he’s been there for nearly two seasons. It’s not going to get any better than that.
“You’re buying prospects for 72 million? That’s insane. In the summer, that’s probably an area that they’ll be looking at. They must be looking at it, as will a lot of clubs.”
Højlund likely to become United’s backup
Ruben Amorim is the current man trying to solve the issue around United’s striker problem and he continues to back Højlund’s ability in the media.
But it would be impossible for the United boss to not be thinking about signing an upgrade in the summer. Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move.
Højlund would certainly be on the chopping block this summer if the club were to receive a significant offer in the transfer market.

However, the more likely outcome is that he becomes the backup forward after United sign a more experienced option in the summer–a fortunate outcome for the underperforming striker.
