Manchester United came from behind against Manchester City to win 2-1 in the Premier League clash and there were certainly some opinions on Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser.

Casemiro had played the ball in behind City’s defence and Marcus Rashford began to make a run to the ball, before noticing he was offside and leaving it at the last moment. Bruno came through and swept the ball home for United.

The visitors were furious with the decision but did themselves no favours minutes later when they cried for a penalty after Erling Haaland, who was quiet on the day, kicked Casemiro’s leg inside United’s box. It was one of four times they surrounded the referee chasing a spot-kick decision.

Pep Guardiola was unhappy with the goal, saying that United’s no.10 impacted his backline.

“(Marcus) Rashford (is) offside, Bruno Fernandes no. Rashford is intervening or not, (he) distracted our keeper and distracted our central defenders.”

Rashford went onto haunt Guardiola’s team four minutes afterwards, scoring the winning goal in the game.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag believes that his star forward did right by the rule book, however, admits it was a grey area for the officials.

“When you follow the rules it’s a goal. He [Rashford] did not touch the ball, he did not interfere.”m

“(However), I would be unhappy if I conceded a goal like that because it brings hesitation – it’s a grey area. Also for the referee, a really difficult situation to judge.”

In the end, United secured a massive three points and are now within a point of their city rivals in the Premier League table.

Arsenal are six points in front of The Reds, at the top of the table, and play Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners do have that game-in-hand, however. United travel to The Emirates next weekend.
