While Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal, Amad Diallo has been praised for his individual performance at Old Trafford.

Manchester United endured another disappointing defeat, this time against Arsenal, with a 1-0 scoreline at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard’s goal, facilitated by Kai Havertz in the first half, sealed the win for Mikel Arteta‘s squad.

This loss marked United’s 14th in the Premier League this season, establishing a new club record. Moreover, their total of 19 defeats across all competitions is their highest in a single campaign since 1977-78.

Despite the poor performance, Amad Diallo, who was starting his first game for United in 887 days, was United’s brightest spark in the tie.

“It’s his first start. He did well. He was very bright, very confident,” Ten Hag told club media after the fixture when asked about Amad.

“I think Amad deserved it [his start], and there is still a lot of competition in that position.

“So he was injured for a long time, and he has built himself back. He deserved it, and across the season with [Alejandro] Garnacho, with Antony, we have options, and [Marcus] Rashford has also played there as well.

“But today, I thought he deserved it, and he played very good. He did what we expected him to do. He was brave, he was creative, defended very good, and I was impressed with his performance.”

Amad had to be taken off in the 70th minute after it was noticed that he had a knee problem. He had gone down after a challenge inside the box from Thomas Partey in the first half and the game drifted away from United after he was taken off.

Thankfully, Amad has since confirmed that the issue is not serious and that the first-half incident had only bothered him in the second half.

“The knee-to-knee in the first half bothered me in the second half; otherwise, I’m fine,” he wrote on social media.
