Early Man United vs Liverpool team news: Updates on Luke Shaw and Alexis Mac Allister
Manchester United are still unsure on the fitness of Luke Shaw as they travel to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United are looking to redeem fans as they visit the site of their 7-0 embarrassment of a loss against Liverpool last season, with Erik ten Hag also looking to make amends for the club’s exit from the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
United’s most recent game, the 1-0 loss against Bayern Munich, saw two Reds exit the field with injury, with no official updates yet on either Luke Shaw or Harry Maguire.

However, the club have said that the defensive duo will “continue to be assessed” in the coming days ahead of the tie, and leaks have stated that Shaw should not be out for any longer than one or two weeks, with it even being possible that he may be fit to play against Liverpool after feeling no discomfort during his assessment on Wednesday.
The same report also details that the club are awaiting the results and diagnoses of the scans of Maguire’s injury.
Victor Lindelöf returned to training ahead of the Bayern game but was not in the squad, with Ten Hag due to give updates on the fitness of his players on Friday afternoon.
Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both missed the Old Trafford tie on Tuesday as well as training on Monday, with the club keeping the availability of both players close to their chest.
Lisandro Martínez, Casemiro, and Tyrell Malacia remain sidelined, while Amad is back in training but is not expected to be involved in any travelling squad.
Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen are nearing returns to fitness, but there is no official timeline for either of their returns. Bruno Fernandes is suspended for the tie after picking up five yellow cards in the competition so far this season.
For Liverpool, the team will be without star signing and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, who suffered a knee problem against Sheffield United in the first week of December.
Joel Matip remains out of action after undergoing surgery on his ACL, while Andrew Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, and Diogo Jota also remain sidelined.
Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah were all rested for Liverpool’s Europa League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday, where they lost 2-1, ahead of the game at Anfield on Sunday.
