Dwight Yorke has suggested that Manchester United would be crazy to sell one star who Ruben Amorim wants to leave the club.
Manchester United are planning to make major changes this summer to try and improve the squad at Ruben Amorim’s disposal for next season.
It has been reported that the club’s budget for signings is around £100 million, with most of that being taken up by the £62.5 million it will take to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
That means that the Reds will need to make several player sales, with some popular players potentially on the chopping block.
Alejandro Garnacho is among those who could depart Old Trafford, with reports claiming that Amorim has already told the 20-year-old to find a new club this summer.
Yorke says selling Garnacho would be crazy
Garnacho causes a lot of split opinion within the United fanbase, and club legend Dwight Yorke is a big fan of him and believes it would be a huge mistake if the Reds sold him.
The ex-striker has suggested that Garnacho’s biggest problem is that he looks ‘burned out’ through a lack of rest, but that shouldn’t mean that he is sold.
“Manchester United would be crazy to think about selling Alejandro Garnacho. He is so young and is a super young player, there is a high expectation at United so it’s normal to see a dip in his form,” Yorke told PokerScout.
“The issue is that there isn’t really the squad to rest him because the replacements aren’t up to the same level, he is playing too much for his age and I sympathise with that.
“If he was rested he would come back with more fire in his belly, he needs that learning curve and it’s up to the manager to help that. But he’s not getting enough rest because United cannot afford to rest him.
“I think he looks a little bit burned out rather than anything else, but I think that United would be crazy to even think about getting rid of him.”
Garnacho’s problems are around being overplayed
It is fair to say that Garnacho’s problems are coming from being overplayed. He should have never been in the position to be one of the only wingers left in the squad.
You only have to look back to how impactful he seemed during the 2022/23 campaign when he was mostly being used as a substitute under Erik ten Hag.
The problem is that he doesn’t seem entirely happy to be out of the team anymore and also is causing issues outside of the pitch.
Potentially receiving £50-60 million for the Argentine would also allow United to make several important signings in the upcoming summer window.
