“Dream come true” – Chido Obi reacts to making Manchester United debut during Spurs defeat

Chido Obi made his first-team debut for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League clash in North London on the weekend.
Both teams have struggled this season, but Spurs took advantage of United’s defensive mistakes to secure the victory.
James Maddison reacted quickest when André Onana failed to properly deal with a shot from Lucas Bergvall, parrying it into a dangerous area and allowing Maddison an easy finish.
Ruben Amorim’s side was ineffective in attack, failing to break through a vulnerable Spurs defense.
Despite their struggles, Amorim did not look to the substitutes bench until the final moments of the game when Chido Obi came on to make his debut for the club.
The 17-year-old striker was unable to make an impact, with United struggling to get the ball forward in the final moments, but it would’ve been a proud moment for Obi nonetheless.
Obi reacts to making United debut
Obi joined the club earlier this season after rejecting a professional contract at Arsenal and making the switch to Old Trafford.
The exciting teenager has been excelling in the youth teams and scored a hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup earlier this week.
He was awarded a chance in the squad against Spurs due to Amorim suffering an injury crisis in the first-team, which includes a season-ending injury for Amad.
Obi took to Instagram after the game to reflect on his “dream” debut despite being disappointed with the result.
“Disappointed with the loss😤 on a personal note thanks to the gaffer & the club for making a dream come true for me and my family 🤞🏾🙏🏾,” he wrote.

United fans will want to see more of Obi and other youth stars
United fans were delighted to see Obi come on the pitch and many were calling for the change to be made sooner.
The 17-year-old was unable to make an impact in three minutes but may have done with a little bit longer.
Despite the question marks over his readiness for the first-team at this moment in time, it was a situation where Amorim couldn’t have lost by sending him on with 10 minutes to go.
Hopefully we will see some more of Obi and other youth talents before the end of the season, with there being few other ways to find positives at Old Trafford this season.
