Paul Parker has claimed that Ruben Amorim’s treatment of Manchester United youngster Ayden Heaven is ‘scripted’, after back-to-back substitutions.
Manchester United took on 20th-place Wolverhampton Wanderers last night and came out as 4-1 victors, which has sent the Reds up to sixth in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim’s side looked far better than they did in their draw against West Ham United, and were good value for their thrashing.
Matheus Cunha marked his return to Molineux with an assist, whilst Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace. The other two goals were scored by Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.
Despite the victory, former United defender Paul Parker is sceptical of Amorim’s decisions regarding defensive substitutions, and used Ayden Heaven as an example.
Heaven’s lack of minutes
When speaking exclusively to UtdDistrict, Parker was asked about what he has made of Heaven in the last two games, to which he said: “I think he’s a lad who needs games. You can see there’s something about him, but there’s a little bit of edge in this sometimes because he’s not sure.
“And again, the manager puts him on and he drags him off – let the lad play 90 minutes. So they keep taking him off, took him off in the previous game, but that might be because he had a yellow card.
“But every time someone gets a yellow card, you’re going to keep taking someone off? Is that what the game’s come to? I mean, that’s, you know, it’s a refereeing issue or something if we’ve gone there.
“But still, the lad needs football. He needs to start playing football. He’s come from Arsenal, when he had his first appearance against Arsenal, he looked really good.
“Then he got that injury just after that game as well, and then it took him ages to get minutes, and then he keeps taking him off all the time for no apparent reason. It doesn’t make any sense.
Amorim’s ‘scripted’ substitutions
After being dragged off at half-time against the Hammers, Heaven was then rewarded with another start. However, yet again, he was substituted early, as he exited proceedings in the 69th minute.
This carried on Amorim’s bizarre trend of making central defensive substitutions in United games, which he has done in every fixture so far this season, except for their 1-0 loss to Everton.

Parker spoke on this by saying, “Amorim needs to explain to everybody why does he keep doing that kind of subscribed substitution, at that given time and do when regardless of where the game is and generally in good positions, he does it.
“It’s scripted, totally scripted. The whole thing, it just doesn’t make any sense.”
