Former Manchester United and Aston Villa star Dion Dublin has slammed two players after the 2-1 result at Villa Park on the weekend.
Manchester United fell to a 2–1 defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with Morgan Rogers scoring twice to secure the win for the home side.
Despite enjoying prolonged spells of control, United failed to make their dominance count in front of goal, while Rogers proved decisive with two clinical finishes.
Ruben Amorim can take some encouragement from his team’s overall display, but their ongoing inability to turn control into goals once again came back to haunt them.
Their defensive frailties were also clear once again, with the Reds having kept just one clean sheet all season so far.
Dublin slams two United players vs Villa
United limited Unai Emery’s side to just four shots on target throughout the game on Sunday and the two goals from Rogers came from a combined xG of 0.06.
Yet, when you analyse the goals and the fact that everyone knows Rogers is a player who can score goals like that, it was really poor defending from United.
Former United and Villa player Dion Dublin criticised Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot for their roles in the two goals from the England international, with both players failing to close him down in the crucial moments.
“If you’re a defender like Yoro and you know your opponent has had a bad touch, that is when you have to go in. You cannot allow an opponent to get to the ball [with space]. That’s where you’ve got to be, right there in his face,” Dublin said on BBC Match of the Day.
“Keep him there, keep him going down the line and make sure that he doesn’t come inside on his stronger foot. This is really poor defending, you cannot allow that to happen.”
Dalot makes same mistake as Yoro
Moving onto the second goal, Dublin could not believe that Dalot allowed the initial cross to be played into the box from the right-hand side.
“It was a bad ball to [Youri] Tielemans, it was in behind him and again Dalot… he’s got to go closer, he knows that Tielemans is not going to beat him for pace, make it difficult for him, get close to him.

“They’re three on three, everything’s fine, he’s facing the corner flag, no danger. You’ve got to stop the cross, put your leg up. He allows Tielemans to cross the ball, Yoro switches off and who’s there, the man of the moment again.”
Once again, it seems like the goals United concede are always too easy for the opponent, even if both of Rogers’ finishes were taken expertly.
