Dion Dublin believes that one Manchester United star has been helping Ayden Heaven in his recent impressive performances.

Ayden Heaven started Manchester United’s last two games after impressing off the bench against Arsenal earlier this month.

The defender has looked extremely assured in and out of possession despite having next to no prior experience in the professional game.

He was forced off with an ankle injury last time out, with fans desperate to hear good news about his situation over the international break.

Ruben Amorim has been impressed with the youngster’s ability and will undoubtedly hope to have him available as soon as possible.

Dublin noticed United star playing role in Heaven success

In all of Heaven’s four appearances so far this season, he has played in the back three alongside Matthijs de Ligt, who was “brilliant” against Leicester City.

The Dutchman has been an important player for United this season and Amorim believes that he’s stepped up in recent weeks.

That includes helping his young defensive partners. De Ligt has played alongside Leny Yoro for a lot of games and now has been helping Heaven through the games too.

“He looks very comfortable,” former United player Dion Dublin said about Heaven on Premier League Productions last weekend.

“When I was at the [Real] Sociedad game, De Ligt was talking to him all the way through the game, and he’ll need that little bit of reassurance from the seniors around him.

“But he’s playing like he’s played a couple of seasons for United, he’s asking for the ball, he’s making the angles in order to be free to get the ball.

“As a young player, sometimes you don’t make the angles and then you don’t get the ball. He wants it all the time.

“His defensive mindset is very good, so yeah, he’s gonna be around for a long time. We just hope [his injury] is not too bad.”

De Ligt’s leadership important for United rebuild

When the club signed De Ligt from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, there were conflicting opinions about it.

The 25-year-old has managed to quieten a lot of the criticism with his performances across the season, and his perfect injury record so far has also surprised some fans.

There will likely still be question marks over De Ligt’s ability on the ball, and whether he can be a starting centre-back in the longer term for Amorim’s side.

But the Dutch international offers something that not many others in the squad have: experience and leadership. They are crucial for any team but especially one looking to rebuild.

United are focused on bringing in a lot of young players in the coming years and they will need to have leaders in the dressing room. De Ligt is certainly one of them.
