Diogo Dalot reveals private reaction to Ruben Amorim’s 3-word Manchester United plea
Ruben Amorim has demanded more from his leaders at Manchester United after a tough start to life at Old Trafford.
Manchester United secured a well-fought draw away from home against Liverpool on the weekend, a game which showed what the team can do when everyone pulls in the right direction.
However, the performance was one that caused frustration for Ruben Amorim, who is now questioning why the same could not be shown in previous games.
United have only won four games since Amorim’s arrival and several recent results showed how fragile the current squad can be in certain situations.
Ahead of the Liverpool game, Amorim explained that United were ‘starving for leaders’ to help guide the team through the difficult period.
Dalot’s reaction to Amorim’s comment
This was a comment that struck a cord with Diogo Dalot, who has admitted that he needs to ‘step up’ in that regard as a senior player in the dressing room.
The Portuguese full-back has consistently been playing out of possession on the left in Amorim’s system but produced his best performance of the season against Liverpool.
“It pinched me,” Dalot told reporters when asked about that comment from Amorim after the game on Sunday.
“I think that’s what he wanted for every player. I’ve been here for a while. I know that I can step up a little bit more as well in that level and I’m going to try to help my team-mates for as long as I can.
“As long as I’m on the pitch and outside the pitch, I will try to help them. You could see that we were more of a team. That was the biggest difference for today.”
United players are listening to Amorim
When Amorim decided to join United, it was reported that there was a lot of interest in his press conferences, not just from journalists but also his players.
Many would tune in to hear what the manager would have to say about them and their teammates. It seems like he’s beginning to have the same impact at Old Trafford.
Dalot has been one of United’s more consistent performers over the last two years but dropped off in recent months. Alongside others, he needs to find consistency to help move the team forward.

It is a big positive to think that these players are properly listening to Amorim and what he says. That’s one half of the battle.
