Diogo Dalot reveals ‘moment of great pride’ at Manchester United this season, “I can’t deny it…”

Diogo Dalot has revealed one moment of ‘great pride’ that he has experienced at Manchester United this season.

Manchester United have had a whirlwind of a season so far, with Ruben Amorim being replaced by Michael Carrick in the hot-seat.

The club’s form has improved recently and they are fighting to qualify for the Champions League, although they have been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.

Diogo Dalot has been a regular under both Carrick and Amorim, starting 21 of the 25 Premier League games so far this term.

He was mainly playing as a left wingback under Amorim due to the preference for a 3-4-2-1 system but the defender has returned to his natural right-back position under Carrick.

That change has also brought an improvement in his form, with Dalot looking much stronger in recent games after suffering problems earlier in the season.

Dalot reveals ‘moment of great pride’ at United this season

Dalot often struggled when he was played as a wingback, partly because of the attacking responsibility he had in the role. That was the position he played during the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in December.

But that match did provide a big moment for Dalot, who was handed the captain’s armband for the first-ever time after Bruno Fernandes was forced off with injury.

Dalot is the second-longest serving player in the squad, only behind Luke Shaw, and he has explained how proud he was of taking the captaincy in that moment.

“I can’t deny it, it was a moment of great pride,” the right-back told Rio Ferdinand in a fresh interview on the United legend’s YouTube channel.

“At that moment, I couldn’t think about what was happening, but after the game, when I got home and saw my wife, and especially my father, who has been by my side on this journey since I was six years old, it was a moment of great pride.

“It’s not easy; the club doesn’t give you this privilege just because… It was one of the best moments I’ve had here.”

Dalot hate is confusing

Dalot has received a lot of criticism from the fanbase due to his performances under Amorim but no one can complain about his application.

It is somewhat confusing to see a player like that be hated by people who slammed Jadon Sancho due to his lack of effort while he was at Old Trafford.

Sometimes the quality is not there with Dalot, especially in the final third, but he works tirelessly every game and is a brilliant professional away from the pitch too.

He will be hoping that the return to his natural position will lead to a prolonged period of improved form, and perhaps that will start getting more fans onside.
