Diogo Dalot’s agent has opened up on his client’s future at Manchester United following confirmation surrounding a potential position change for the Rúben Amorim stalwart.
While Rúben Amorim has had a hectic start to life at Manchester United, a few players have proven themselves to be very loyal and dependable to the 40-year-old.
While some such as Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho have been inconsistent with their performances, Diogo Dalot has been one of a few players who Amorim has been able to lean on.
The 26-year-old has not always put in the most stellar performances under the Portuguese coach, mostly playing as an auxiliary right wing-back, but he has featured in every game since Amorim’s arrival bar a tie against Newcastle, where he was suspended.
Alongside Bruno Fernandes and Noussair Mazraoui, Dalot has become an integral part of the starting XI since Amorim’s appointment.
Dalot’s agent speaks on his future
In June 2023, Diogo Dalot signed a new five-year contract that runs to 2028, with the club retaining the option to extend this for a further season should they wish to.
The defender’s agent, Carlos Gonçalves, has spoken recently about Dalot’s future under Amorim, to which he explained that the player will do everything he can to stay at United long-term.
“Because of Diogo’s way of being, his way of working, his mentality of always being professional, he has earned his place,” Gonçalves said, as quoted by Sport Witness.
“Not only at Manchester United, which is one of the best clubs in the world, regardless of the current situation, but also in the national team.
“He recently renewed his contract, a sign that Manchester United are still very happy with Diogo’s performances. And he will do everything possible to help the club and in this case coach Ruben Amorim.
“It’s always good when you have quality coaches like José Mourinho at United and now Ruben Amorim. But when someone signs with a club, they don’t sign with the coach, they sign with the club.”
Could Dalot change positions under Amorim?
A large portion of Dalot’s criticism is his lack of creativity in the final third, with Amorim asking for a lot of attacking prowess from his wing-backs. However, with Dalot playing a lot of his football so far on the left due to injuries elsewhere, he has been given leway by Amorim in this respect.

In the last two ties, Dalot has played stints on his more comfortable right-hand side and has scored and assisted, which gives encouragement, although some have said he may be better off playing as a right centre-back in the back three.
However, a report from the Manchester Evening News has confirmed that Dalot is unlikely to be considered as an auxiliary right centre-back in the future by Amorim.
Although he has experience playing in the position, with United having Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, and Matthijs de Ligt as potential right-sided centre-back options, his long-term position at the club is set to remain as a right wing-back.
