“Different level…” – Anthony Elanga sends brutal reminder to Man United about Erik ten Hag mistake
Anthony Elanga has sent a brutal reminder to Manchester United about a mistake from previous manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United sold Anthony Elanga to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 and the young winger has excelled at his new club since then.
He has played an important role for Nuno Espírito Santo’s over-performing side so far this term after starting solid last season.
Elanga is not the only winger to depart United recently and showcase high levels elsewhere, with Jadon Sancho currently excelling at Chelsea.
The Blues signed Sancho on an initial loan deal with there being an obligation to buy him and he has quickly turned from United flop to a very useful Chelsea player.
He has seven goal contributions in 10 games for Enzo Maresca’s side only a matter of months after Erik ten Hag booted him out of the first-team squad at Old Trafford.
United decided to back the manager in the confrontation but might now be looking back on the decision with regret after bringing in Ruben Amorim.
Amorim’s style of play with two no.10s does not seem to suit the direct wingers like Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford. Perhaps Sancho could have fit this role.
A reminder of the 24-year-old’s current levels was provided by Elanga last week during an interview with Pro Direct Soccer.
Asked about Sancho’s talent, Elanga said: “That guy… I mean we saw what he did in the Champions League last season, and he’s brought that quality to Chelsea.
“That’s helped Chelsea in a way and they are looking even better than they did last season.
“Sanch is just a different level man. He’s a top guy, but a top player as well.”
United are expected to receive around £25 million for Sancho next summer and while many fans were initially happy to see him leave, he’s already beginning to prove that it might have been a mistake.
