Diego Leon is set to become the first signing at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim’s management, with a medical at Carrington incoming.

Manchester United are set to continue their new recruitment approach under Ruben Amorim, with INEOS focused on signing young gems with big potential.

Chido Obi-Martin and Sekou Kone were signed in the summer and both are expected to be first-team players at Old Trafford in the future.

Paraguayan prospect Diego Leon had been closely monitored by United in recent months before an agreement was made ahead of the January transfer market for an initial £3.1 million deal.

Leon, who is only 17 years of age, will not join United until next summer after he turns 18 but he is expected to complete a medical during the current window.

Leon’s agent reveals United medical latest

Amorim will want further additions but it appears that Leon will be the first player to be signed under his leadership, despite not being able to be selected until next season.

The left-back’s agent, Renato Bittar, has been discussing the latest developments of his move to Old Trafford.

He has revealed that a medical at United’s training ground will occur in the coming days during an interview with Paraguayan journalist Bruno Pont.

“Speaking to Renato Bittar, he confirmed that in the next few days he and Diego Leon will travel to Manchester, where the player will undergo medical tests,” Pont posted on X.

United focused on strengthening Amorim’s wingback options

It is quite clear that United have already recognised that Amorim needs top quality wingbacks in order to succeed in his preferred system.

Leon is a natural left-back and has the attributes to be developed into a promising wingback but he is not the only addition United are looking for in that area.

Reports have linked the Reds with a more experienced option in the role for the January transfer market, with PSG’s Nuno Mendes appearing to be the favourite option.

He previously worked in Amorim’s system at Sporting before his move to Paris in the summer of 2021. Now, the 22-year-old is keen for a move and refusing to sign a new contract at the French club.
