Diego Leon sends exciting five-word message to Manchester United fans after “very good” debut

Diego Leon has sent an exciting message to Manchester United fans after making his unofficial debut for the club in a pre-season friendly against Leeds.

Manchester United began their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Premier League counterparts Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden, over the weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s side faced some early pressure but gradually grew into the game and began to take control. Chido Obi had a couple of decent chances up front, while new signing Matheus Cunha caught the eye with his energy and attacking intent.

Another bright spark in the first half was 18-year-old newcomer Diego Leon, who impressed at left wing-back with his composure and willingness to drive forward.

Despite some encouraging attacking moments, the first half ended without a breakthrough. At the interval, Amorim made sweeping changes, bringing on 11 new players, including Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu.

United looked more settled in the second half, with Dorgu in particular standing out for his confident display on the left flank. Leeds also began to find their rhythm, but the Red Devils pushed for a late winner, creating a handful of chances. Ultimately, neither side managed to find the net, and the game ended in a goalless draw.

Leon sends exciting message to United fans

For both debutants, it was a pretty good day at the office but many fans were expecting Cunha’s impressive showing while Leon’s level had been more of a mystery.

The Paraguayan youngster had reportedly impressed in training since arriving earlier this summer and he managed to showcase a good level in the first half of this clash, with Amorim suggesting that it was a very good display.

United supporters were impressed but Leon’s mentality is clear, with the 18-year-old already looking ahead for his next challenge as the pre-season tour to the United States comes closer.

On Instagram, the new defender re-posted a picture of the starting team from United’s account and added the comment, ‘Getting ready for what’s coming’.

He has not been shy of making bold statements, previously claiming that he would ‘kill it’ in pre-season and secure a first-team spot at Old Trafford before his arrival.

Leon making positive steps at United so far

Leon looks like he will be getting more opportunities in the first-team going forward after it was revealed that Harry Amass is set to head out on loan for next season.

Amass was absent from the squad which travelled to Sweden for the game against Leeds and was the backup for Dorgu in the back-end of last season.

That position now seems like it will be filled by Leon, who will probably also get some game-time with the Under-21s, while Amass looks for consistent football next term.

Leon appears to be making positive steps in the opening weeks of his United career but it is clear that he only views it as the start.
