46 touches, 2 chances created – Rúben Amorim handed boost as Man Utd star sends clear position change message
Rúben Amorim has been handed a boost as one of his Manchester United stars sends a clear message after his recent forced position change.
Rúben Amorim has seen several of his Manchester United players depart to their respective national teams as the March international fixtures commence.
United saw their Danish trio of Rasmus Højlund, Christian Eriksen, and Patrick Dorgu all join the Denmark national side, while Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot both joined up with ex-Red Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal.
Matthijs de Ligt was a last-minute call up with the Netherlands, while Manuel Ugarte flew to south America as he linked up with Uruguay.
André Onana flew to Cameroon to join their national side, although Amorim still has a number of United players who are resting and recuperating ahead of a busy end of the season schedule.
Dalot impresses with display against Denmark
The most significant fixture for United fans is no doubt Denmark’s clash against Portugal, with the sides facing each other over two legs in the Nations League semi-finals.
The first leg took place in Denmark on Thursday evening, with Højlund’s 78th-minute striker the difference maker as the United striker came off the bench to win the tie.
However, his teammate but opponent on the night, Dalot, also played well, helping his side keep a clean sheet until he was substituted in the 66th minute.
The 26-year-old created two chances playing as a right-back in a back four, completing 25 of his 33 attempted passes and created two chances, the most of any player on the pitch at the time of his substitution.
Amorim receives clear message from Dalot
Dalot has had a lot of criticism thrown his way in recent months, with many United fans tired of his admittedly one-dimensional performances at left wing-back.
Dalot had been filling in due to lack of other options in the position up until Dorgu’s signing, and with the left wing-back having been served a three-match ban after a red card against ipswich, Dalot continued to play on the left.
However, In the last few days, Dalot has picked up a goal and an assist while playing on the right for United. His two chances created and positive performance on Thursday evening have only furthered the case that Dalot’s permanent position must be back on the right flank.
Dalot only playing 66 minutes of the fixture also provides Amorim with a second boost, who will no doubt be hoping that his compatriot remains fit during these internationals.
