Denmark boss sends warning to Patrick Dorgu after Manchester United move, it’s an understandable point
Denmark’s manager Brian Riemer has sent a warning to Patrick Dorgu after his move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Patrick Dorgu, 20, has signed with Manchester United as an immediate reinforcement for the left wingback position under Ruben Amorim.
This season, United has alternated between Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Tyrell Malacia in the role, highlighting the need for a more consistent option.
Known for his attacking style and ability to create danger in the final third, Dorgu appears to be a valuable addition to the squad and will be eager to make an impact.
Before his move, the young defender featured in 23 matches for Lecce this season, demonstrating his versatility by playing as both a left wingback and a right winger.
Denmark boss Riemer sends warning to Dorgu
Dorgu has also made four appearances for Denmark. He scored within a minute after coming on during his debut against Switzerland.
At that point, it was Lars Knudsen in charge of the Danish national team but Brian Riemer has since taken control as manager and sent a clear message to Dorgu.
Riemer has expressed his delight that two of his youngest and most exciting players are at Manchester United, and explained the potential rewards if Dorgu succeeds at Old Trafford.
However, he has also warned the 20-year-old of the pressure that will come when playing for the “world’s greatest club”, especially when moving from Lecce with minimal expectations.
“It is a huge endorsement of Danish talent development that two of our greatest talents, Rasmus Højlund and Patrick Dorgu, are part of perhaps the world’s greatest club,” Riemer told Tipsbladet.
“Patrick must know that when he goes from Lecce to Manchester United, the expectations and pressure are completely different.
“He has also had a lot of considerations about that with his supporters. If he succeeds, the gain is also greater, because then he is on the biggest blade. He has every opportunity to take a huge step forward in his career, but it is up to him to seize the chance.”
Riemer’s warning to Dorgu is understandable
We have already seen how the pressure of playing for United has impacted several young talents, including Højlund, so it is an understandable warning for Dorgu.
It is one that Bruno Fernandes has also explained after recently claiming that any new signings need “balls” if they want to play for the club.
Dorgu has already recognised that having the right mentality is one of the most important things in football, but you will only really know if you have what it takes to play for United after you start.
Every United fan will be hoping that Dorgu can make a positive start to his life at Old Trafford, with a debut in the FA Cup against Leicester City coming up.
