Paul Scholes has expressed who he would ‘definitely’ like to replace Ruben Amorim as the Manchester United manager, if the Portuguese boss is to depart.
Manchester United’s rocky start to the season took a turn for the better over the weekend, as they eased their way to a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted outfit, Sunderland.
The Reds put in a much-improved performance against the Black Cats and were led to victory by goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško.
Ruben Amorim has been under immense pressure to put some points on the board in the Premier League after what was a dismal campaign last season.
Although this recent victory over Sunderland has eased some of the pressure that was mounting on Amorim’s shoulders, many are still speculating that he may be on borrowed time if he can’t find some consistent results.
Scholes knows who he wants
When speaking about United’s managerial situation on The Overlap, Paul Scholes made it clear that he would like to see Eddie Howe as the next United manager if Amorim was to be axed.
“Eddie Howe, Eddie Howe,” he said, via United In Focus.
“I’m not sure about his mate [assistant manager Jason Tindall], but definitely him.”
Having led Newcastle to their first piece of silverware in 56 years, as well as leading them to multiple Champions League campaigns, Howe has created quite the CV for himself.
Can the tides turn for Amorim?
Despite their recent victory, there is still much debate as to who will replace Amorim at Old Trafford, almost as if the masses have accepted that the former Sporting CP coach is nearing an exit.
The main concern regarding the Portuguese coach’s system has been its disregard for some of United’s most talented stars, such as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, who have both struggled to be implemented properly.

Next on the fixture list for the Reds is a difficult trip to Liverpool, after the international break, where they will face an out-of-form Arne Slot side at Anfield.
Hopefully, for Amorim’s sake, he can use the international break to learn from his recent success against Sunderland, if he is to keep his job.
