Rúben Amorim has a few more injuries to deal with as Manchester United prepare to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening.
Manchester United are gearing up for one of their final away trips of 2025 as Rúben Amorim prepares his squad to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening.
Rob Edwards’ men have been in dire form this season, sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table with two draws and ten losses in 14 games.
However, the mood surrounding United is also turning a little sour following yet another lacklustre performance at Old Trafford, drawing 1-1 with 18th-placed West Ham on Thursday evening.
With Amorim chasing Champions League places to keep his job at Old Trafford, the Wolves fixture has become a must-win tie that some feel could spell disaster.
The United boss has a few injuries he must contend with in the coming days, too, but will hope for some returns to the squad amid a new possible injury problem.
Matthijs de Ligt
What happened: After starting every Premier League fixture for the club this season, Matthijs de Ligt was absenst from the matchday squad against West Ham.
What was said: “It’s a small thing.” Amorim said of the entre-back ahead of the game. “I expect to have him in the next game. The rest of the guys are ready.”
Possible return date: 8 December – Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
Diogo Dalot
What happened: After scoring against West Ham, Diogo Dalot was taken off in the 68th minute, with those at the ground suggesting he had signalled a possible injury issue.
What was said: “I think so,” Amorim told the media when asked if the full-back would be okay for Wolves. “We’ll see.”
Possible return date: 8 December – Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
Mason Mount
What happened: After playing 90 minutes against Crystal Palace, Mason Mount was reportedly only fit enough to make the bench against West Ham, having been a doubt earlier in the week
What was said: While Amorim did not mention any injury to Mount directly, the midfielder came on in the 78th minute at Old Trafford, suggesting he will be fit enough to play against Wolves if needed.
Possible return date: 8 December – Wolverhampton Wanderers (A)
Benjamin Šeško
What happened: Benjamin Šeško has been out since 8 November after sustaining a knee injury against Tottenham.
What was said: Amorim has stated on multiple occasions that he expects Šeško to return to training around the same time those heading to AFCON depart, which is 15 December.
Possible return date: 15 December – Bournemouth (H)
Harry Maguire
What happened: Harry Maguire had to come off against Tottenham on 8 December due to a hamstring problem.
What was said: Amorim stated late last month that he expects Maguire to return at a similar time frame to Šeško.
Possible return date: 15 December – Bournemouth (H)
Why isn’t Shea Lacey being given minutes?
While the above players all have questions about their fitness for the Wolves game, Amorim was confident that he feels 18-year-old Shea Lacey is fit and ready to finally make his first-team debut for United.
However, despite being named on the bench for all three of the club’s last three fixtures, the young star is yet to be given even the most minimal amount of minutes.
The United boss further compounded frustration when he claimed he had no attacking options on his bench against West Ham, despite Lacey and kobbie Maino both sitting behind him in the dugout.
When asked about Lacey not being involved against West Ham despite the need for fresh energy in the final ten minutes, Amorim said, “Sometimes, when Bryan [Mbeumo] is not there, I put Amad [there] because I have other wing-backs to play, and sometimes it’s hard.

“So you are asking me why I don’t put Lacey to play, when I have other guys that are internationals, and also they are on the bench?
“So I try to put the best guys, the prepared guys, for this moment of the club, and try to win a game. That’s the only thing, guys.”
However, fans will be hoping Lacey is part of the first-team squad when United travel to face Wolves on Monday.
