David Moyes explains why Man Utd fans should be even more excited about Michael Carrick with ‘more impressive’ claim

David Moyes has been waxing lyrical about Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick since he took over from Rúben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick has hit the ground running as Manchester United’s head coach, stepping in last month after Rúben Amorim was sacked.

Facing a tough run of games against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham, and West Ham, United have collected 13 out of 15 points, dropping points only against West Ham.

Even in that 1-1 draw, the team showed determination, with Benjamin Šeško netting a 90+6th-minute equaliser to keep their unbeaten streak intact.

After a 13-day break thanks to no FA Cup action, Carrick is now fully focused on Monday evening’s trip to Everton.

Moyes not surprised by Carrick’s start at United

While many may be surprised by just how fantastic Carrick’s opening weeks at Old Trafford have been, Everton boss David Moyes is not.

Speaking ahead of hosting United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes praised Carrick’s professionalism and said he feels the 44-year-old’s work at Middlesbrough was even more impressive than what United are currently showing, suggesting that his United side could become even better.

Carrick played 36 times under Moyes at United, and when asked if he knew back then whether the former midfielder would evolve into a good manager, the Scotsman said, “Yeah, he was a really good professional.

“I think I was more impressed with the work he’s done when he was at Middlesbrough. I think he’s done a great job when he was at Middlesbrough and you know, his team has played good stuff and I thought he’d done very well there.

“So he’s gone into the job and looks as if he’s doing it in a calm manner and gone about the job very well.”

Asked whether he’s spoken to Carrick recently, Moyes said, “No, I spoke to Michael in the summer about a couple of things, but it was just really about a player and different things, but nothing else.”

Moyes praises Carrick’s fresh approach

Moyes was also asked for his assessment of how Carrick has turned United around and the changes made.

“I don’t think there’s any player changes, that’s for sure,” the 62-year-old said. “I think it’s roughly the same players, just about, as what Rúben [Amorim] had when he was in charge.”

“I think Michael’s come in and done a brilliant job, I really do. I think he’s sort of freshened the players up with the looks of it and, you know, certainly freshened up the support as well in the way they’re getting some victories.”

It is clear to see that Moyes has a lot of admiration for the work Carrick has done at United since joining, and if his assessment is anything to go by, the veteran amanger certinaly feels that there is even more to come for fans from Carrick between now and the end of the season, and possibly beyond.
