David de Gea’s stance on Premier League return with ‘several options on the table’ this summer
David de Gea’s stance on a return to England has been revealed as the former Manchester United goalkeeper eyes a move this summer.
De Gea, 33, is expected to return to the pitch this coming season after taking a break from football following his departure from United last year.
The Spaniard was replaced by André Onana and became a free agent. But the experienced shot-stopper decided against a variety of options and remained out of the game.
Now, it seems likely that De Gea will finally return to the pitch this summer. He posted an hourglass emoji on his X account last weekend, suggesting that a decision is forthcoming.
According to The Athletic, sources close to De Gea say that the former United goalkeeper had several options on the table.
This includes a club in Saudi Arabia, one in the United States and another in Italy. It was also added that an English club has expressed interest.
However, the outlet details that the player does not want to return to the country after his 12-year association with United.
It was concluded that De Gea expects to have news about his future next week.
Sir Alex Ferguson signed the Spanish goalie in the summer of 2011 and rated him extremely highly. He would go on to break the club’s all-time leading clean sheet record.
After making 545 appearances for United, 415 of which were in the Premier League, it seems understandable that De Gea wants to play elsewhere when he returns to the pitch.
Meanwhile, the Reds will travel to the United States themselves this week as they prepare for the upcoming campaign during their pre-season tour.
Upcoming fixtures against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool are then followed by a return to England to face Manchester City in the Community Shield.
