David de Gea is reportedly pushing Fiorentina to sign one of his former Manchester United teammates this summer.
Manchester United decided to allow David de Gea to depart the club at the end of his contract in 2023 despite the goalkeeper having won the Premier League Golden Glove in the 2022/23 campaign.
Erik ten Hag wanted to change the approach and believed that signing his former Ajax shot-stopper André Onana was the right decision.
Onana has since proved to be a questionable addition and De Gea is back shining between the sticks after spending the first year after he left out of the game.
The Spaniard returned to action in the summer of 2024 and joined Italian side Fiorentina on a free contract. He helped them to a seventh-placed finish while keeping 11 clean sheets.
De Gea is now set to return to Old Trafford in a pre-season friendly this summer but he could also be joined by another recently-departed United star.
De Gea pushing Fiorentina to sign Lindelöf
Victor Lindelöf is searching for a new club after his United contract expired at the end of last season, putting his eight year career with the club to an end.
According to reports from Italy, as per Football Italia, De Gea is pushing his current club to approach Lindelöf this summer to become a new signing.
It has been confirmed that the Serie A outfit are ready to offer the Swedish international a contract offer, with the new that he will bring ‘valuable experience’ to their squad.
De Gea and Lindelöf spent six years together at Old Trafford between 2017 and 2023. They were close friends during that time and the goalkeeper clearly wants to reconnect with the Swede.
Should a move occur in the coming weeks, Lindelöf could return to the Theatre of Dreams just a couple of months after his farewell performance against Aston Villa.
Amorim’s praise for Lindelöf
Lindelöf managed to play a significant part for United towards the back-end of last season due to several injury issues in the backline.
Amorim started him for the Europa League semi-final clash against Athletic Club and praised his experience, the exact quality Fiorentina are looking for.

“Vic [Lindelof] is a player that is really good on the ball also, he’s really experienced,” Amorim told club media.
However, with the amount of options at the back, United won’t miss the defender much now that he has left and instead they are focusing on trying to get more players through the exit door.
