Manchester United legend David Beckham has opened up about three Manchester United transfers he would “hate” to see Rúben Amorim sanction this summer amid the club’s financial issues.
Manchester United are preparing for a summer of change as Rúben Amorim looks to reshape the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
The club, backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, are planning to part ways with at least ten senior players in an effort to raise funds and refresh the team.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans will depart when their contracts end, while Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are expected to be sold, potentially bringing in over £100 million.
Uncertainty remains around the futures of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho as United continue evaluating their squad options.
Beckham hopes United trio will not be sold this summer
Amid the club’s need for cash this summer, United may have to let go of some of their most valuable assets. Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, while Mainoo and Garnacho continue to have their futures speculated on.
However, speaking to The Athletic, legendary United winger David Beckham has admitted that he would hate to see United or Amorim sanction the sale of Fernandes or any promising young players like Mainoo or Garnacho.
“I’d like to think you wouldn’t have to sell your captain (Fernandes),” Beckham said. “He has been exceptional. We’ve all been critical at times of some United players, but when we needed someone to step up, he has done it.
“I also hate (the idea of) any young player who has grown up at United leaving the club. We shouldn’t be selling players purely for financial reasons.
“It should be what they are doing on the field, and if they’re not performing, there’s always a chance — we all knew that, I knew that. If I wasn’t performing on the pitch, it didn’t matter what I’d done in the past or what I was going to do in the future; there was a good chance that I was either going to get left on the bench, or I was going to get sold.
“I’d like to think that Manchester United don’t sell players that have grown up at the club, understand and love the club. I don’t want to see players leave Manchester United if they care about United like I do.”
Garnacho the most likely to leave United this summer
Out of the three players mentioned, it is young winger Garnacho who is most likely to part ways with Amorim this summer.
Although Fernandes is being targeted by Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, it has been well documented that United do not want to part ways with the incredible midfielder. There have also been positive talks with Mainoo’s representatives surrounding a new contract.
Meanwhile, Garnacho remains an attractive potential transfer for Premier League side Chelsea and Serie A outfit Napoli, with the latter seeing him as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Reports have indicated that United may be willing to part ways with the Argentina international for a fee of between £50-60 million this summer. However, the need to sell Garnacho drastically decreases if United secure Champions League qualification for next season.
