Dan Ashworth has provided hint for next Man United signing with the perfect transfer comment
Dan Ashworth has provided the perfect transfer comment, and it could hint at who the club will be signing next.
Ashworth, 53, joined United at the beginning of the month in a surprising turn after Newcastle had been so difficult with their stance on the sporting director.
The Reds have signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee so far this summer, and both deals have been heavily praised by the United fanbase.
Importantly, those players also address the two key positions the club wanted to strengthen and now it is likely that they move onto the midfield.
Ashworth has already explained one of his approaches to the important job he has, and it fits perfectly with the club he is now at.
The 53-year-old wants to provide opportunities to young people, whether that be coaches or players. He is now at a football club with one of the most prominent youth histories in the world.
“Of all the things I’ve learnt as a technical director, the big one is that it’s about giving young people a chance,” he said, speaking on the Training Ground Guru in December 2020.
“That might be a young coach, it might be a young player, or it might be a young physio – but you don’t actually quite know what they can do until you give them an opportunity.
“There is a temptation in the Premier League not to do that just because we can afford not to, whereas young players and young people get their chance in adversity.”
This is something that we’re already seeing at Old Trafford, with INEOS also keen to sign young players with potential, and it’s likely going to be the same story for the midfield.
Manuel Ugarte is the defensive midfield player that United are reportedly targeting. He fits into the young quota alongside Zirkzee (23) and Yoro (18).
At just 23 years of age, Ugarte has a lot of room to grow despite struggling at Paris Saint-Germain. Reports have claimed that personal terms have been agreed.
It seems that this deal could move forward in the coming days, with Ashworth and United keen to continue their youthful approach to the transfer market.
