Rúben Amorim will be assessing the fitness of several of his Manchester United squad as they prepare to welcome Brighton to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Following a brilliant 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, Manchester United return to Old Trafford for an intense fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Rúben Amorim’s season so far has been less than impressive, with losses against the likes of Brentford and Grimsby Town leaving huge question marks over the head coach’s long-term future at the club.
However, the win over Liverpool was their second Premier League victory in a row, the first time Amorim has achieved such a feat at United, and with this being their first win at Anfield in almost a decade, there is renewed optimism.
However, Brighton have always proved to be a tough test for the Reds, and Amorim will be looking to enact revenge after Fabian Hurtzler’s men inflicted him with a 3-1 defeat on the same ground last season.
Below is the latest on all of United’s injured players and their possible return dates.
Lisandro Martínez
What happened: Lisandro Martínez has been out of action for most of 2025 after suffering an ACL injury in September, but is in the final stages of rehabilitation.
What was said: “Licha is near, but almost returning to the trainings with the team,” Amorim told reporters on Friday.
Expected return date: Nottingham Forest (A) – 1 November.
Matheus Cunha
What happened: After a brilliant performance against Liverpool, Matheus Cunha was spotted limping off the field in pain. However, he later confirmed that this was due to a cramp in his calf.
What was said: “I’m so cramped,” Cunha told Stadium Astro. “I’m, like, dead right now, because if I… I stretch my leg, I feel cramped, so I use, like, this method [of limping].”
Expected return date: Brighton (H) – 25 October.
Noussair Mazraoui
What happened: Noussair Mazraoui played 64 minutes against Chelsea last month but was then ruled out with an unspecified muscle injury.
He then trained with the Moroccan national side and was in the squad against Liverpool. Still, when United were looking to defend their lead at Anfield, Leny Yoro was preferred over him, hinting that he may not be fully recovered from injury just yet.
What was said: “We try to balance everything to have everyone ready,” Amorim said last week. “But they are ready, the guys are returning from national teams. They are ready to play.”
Expected return date: Brighton (H) – 25 October.
Ayden Heaven
What happened: Ayden Heaven received “extensive treatment” and went off at half-time of England U20’s fixture against Switzerland, and has not been spotted in training since. However, England boss Ben Futcher did not seem too stressed.
What was said: “He picked something up,” Futcher said at the time. “I don’t think it is too serious, but we will have to see how it settles down.”
Expected return date: Tottenham Hotspur (A) – 8 November.
