Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to Rúben Amorim appointment with heartfelt Manchester United message
Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted to Rúben Amorim’s appointment at Manchester United with a heartfelt message to his former teammate.
Rúben Amorim has been officially confirmed as Manchester United’s new head coach, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag last month.
Though the club announced his arrival two weeks ago, Amorim’s start was delayed by a contractual issue with Sporting CP regarding his release clause. With those complications now resolved, he has finally begun his tenure this week.
During the gap, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager, guiding United to three wins and a draw, which provided a slight boost in both the Premier League and Europa League standings. However, they still find themselves in 13th and 15th place, respectively.
Now, the 39-year-old Amorim takes on a significant challenge as he prepares for his first training session early next week, looking to steady the ship and turn the club’s fortunes around.
Ronaldo’s heartfelt message
Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United legend and possibly the greatest Premier League player ever, sent a heartfelt message to Amorim and his former club, reacting to the news of the Portuguese coach’s official appointment.
After scoring a bicycle kick in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Poland on Friday evening, Ronaldo stated: “I wish Man United and Ruben Amorim the best of luck in the world.”
Ronaldo and Amorim played together for the Portugal national team and also were teammates on multiple occasions during their days in the respective academies as they were both captains.
Against Poland, Ronaldo started alongside Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, with the former scoring in the 80th minute and both playing 90 minutes.
Amorim will have no doubt been watching the game both as a fan of Portugal and to keep an eye on two of his new players, with Fernandes being the club’s current captain.
Amorim’s message
Speaking to club media, Amorim laid out his first priority at the club, explaining that he wants to install an identity and principles into his side.
“The team is the most important thing for me. And if you work as a team, then the talent individually is going to shine,” he said.
“But if I have to explain the importance of everything, it is the character, the way we fight, the way we play, and we must have an identity. If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team.
“Everybody thinks the same, running back, playing, enjoying. This is what drives me. I can say the popular thing, which is to win.
“Everybody wants to win and I want to win with my players, with the fans, but with an identity and one idea, that is the thing that I am focused on all the time.”
