Manchester United is keeping the future of one of their Academy graduates entirely open amid the need for sales this summer.
Before the summer transfer window opened, news broke that almost every single one of Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United players were available for the right price.
Although Al-Hilal were close to testing the waters with a £100 million bid for Bruno Fernandes, the club captain chose to stay at Old Trafford, although at least five players are still expected to depart.
Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho have all been informed they are no longer part of Amorim’s plans at the club and have not been welcomed back into pre-season training.
However, despite the club needing cash for new players, they are yet to sanction a significant sale, with just six weeks left in the summer transfer window.
United open to letting Academy players leave
Over the last five years, United have been at the forefront of Academy recruitment, securing some of the most highly talented youngsters across England and Europe, and creating pathways for them at Carrington.
While some of these recruitments have turned into first-team success stories, with Garnacho a standout name, not all youngsters have so far lived up to their potential.
According to The Athletic, there is an increased emphasis on helping those who are unlikely to break into the first-team in the coming seasons find pathways elsewhere within England’s football pyramid.
The report states that Academy staff are working with the players, their families, and representatives to facilitate moves away, and the club would be willing to let players go for nominal fees and big sell-on clauses to help their careers.
There is also a thought that this can help clear the way for some of the more promising talents set to emerge through the ranks.
Collyer could leave this summer
Amid United’s willingness to facilitate moves elsewhere, The Athletic’s report also notes that young midfielder Toby Collyer could depart this summer.

Collyer was signed from Brighton a few seasons ago and spent significant time in United’s Academy before making the jump to first-team football under Erik ten Hag, but has not had many chances to shine under Amorim due to injuries.
United are looking to sign another midfielder this summer, and with Kobbie Mainoo, Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte all set to stay, there is not a significant amount of space in the squad for Collyer, despite some “crazy” performances from the 21-year-old last campaign.
The Athletic state that, with Collyer’s minutes unclear, the club are keeping his future open, but that there is a chance he may be sold, should the right opportunity arise.
