Joshua Zirkzee is yet to start a game for Manchester United in the Premier League so far this season and the next clash comes against Everton on Monday night.
Manchester United return from the international break with a home clash against Everton on Monday night and Ruben Amorim will be hoping to continue the positive form.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last five games and three of those have been victories. The away win over Liverpool was the standout result in that run of fixtures.
Despite the form being good, Joshua Zirkzee has not been having the best of times at Old Trafford this season as he struggles for game-time.
The Dutchman has not started a game so far this term and is only getting minimal time off the bench, although the latest injury to Benjamin Šeško could help him find a way into the team.
What Zirkzee is doing in United training
Even though Zirkzee is the only senior striker option available to Amorim, it would not be surprising to see Mason Mount come into the team against Everton and Cunha played through the middle.
But it has been explained by Andy Mitten on the Talk of the Devils podcast that Zirkzee is performing well in training at Carrington.
“He needs to play football,” Mitten said. “I mean, he’s got a contract so he could sit on that, but he needs to play football. He’s very popular, very popular with the staff, with the players, he trains well.
“Nice lad, considered to be really, really talented, but he’s got to bring what he does into training. Into first team matches.”
Zirkzee was one of United’s best players in the back-end of last season before a hamstring injury essentially ended his campaign.
Zirkzee deserves a chance vs Everton
Zirkzee is clearly working hard behind-the-scenes at Carrington and while Mount is probably the favoured option to come into the team, Amorim has to give the Dutchman a chance at some point.
The forward scored twice in a 4-0 win the last time Everton came to Old Trafford and will feel like he can make an impact in this game.
Amorim has spoken about how important the full squad is at United and how players off the bench need to make an impact, but that will only happen if those players feel like there is a genuine opportunity for them to get into the team.
With Zirkzee performing in training and Šeško now out of action, he deserves a chance in the team otherwise he will be wondering when that will come for him.
