Nine players are set to leave Manchester United this week as the club prepare to launch their third bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United remain in talks over what would be their second signing of the summer, with a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo moving closer to completion.
Following the arrival of Matheus Cunha earlier this month, Rúben Amorim is eager to add further attacking options, though negotiations with Brentford over Mbeumo have been lengthy.
An initial £55 million bid for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June, and a follow-up offer—featuring the same base fee plus £7.5 million in add-ons—has also been turned down.
Despite Brentford’s firm stance, there is optimism that an agreement will be reached. Once Mbeumo joins, United are expected to ramp up player departures and continue targeting a striker and midfielder before the Premier League kicks off in mid-August.
Third Mbeumo bid to be tabled this week
Although Brentford rejected United’s second bid for the Cameroon international, reports suggest that they are content with the £55 million base fee for the player.
Instead, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has detailed, United’s third bid is set to focus on more favourable payment terms, with Brentford wanting a significant portion of the fee paid up front.
Brentford are said to want the total fee to reach £65 million rather than the £62.5 million package United bid, as they believe Mbeumo is worth more than Cunha.
With United wanting the 25-year-old over the line before pre-season training starts next week, it is expected that their revised third bid will be lodged toward the beginning of this week, with his medical provisionally booked to commence a few days later.
Nine United players to leave this week
Amid the incoming of Mbeumo, nine of United’s current crop of players will leave when their contracts expire on Monday, 30 June.
From the first team, Jonny Evans will retire when his contracts expire, while Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen will become free agents.
Six Academy players are also set to depart. Goalkeeping trio Hubert Graczyk, Tom Wooster, and Tom Myles are all leaving, while James Nolan, Sam Murray, and Jack Kingdon will have to find new clubs, too.
Although Tom Heaton’s contract was also set to expire, the veteran third-choice goalkeeper was handed a new one-year contract last week, where he is expected to continue his leadership role under Amorim.
