The majority of Manchester United’s squad to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup fourth round has been confirmed ahead of kick-off on Wednesday evening.

The Old Trafford clash will present yet another opportunity for Erik ten Hag’s men to provide a performance that can inspire fans who are losing faith in the current squad.

With five losses out of their first 10 Premier League fixtures, United have failed to build on their impressive campaign last term and instead seem to have taken backwards steps.

This game, however, will hopefully allow Ten Hag to utilise the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Mason Mount, who could both prove to influence his decision for the Fulham game on the weekend if they perform well.

Both Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have also returned to the squad. The defender is more likely to get minutes from the bench whilst the Brazilian could start the clash in the engine room.

Ten Hag believes that his team can turn around their form and this game provides a good chance for the start of that change.

He said: “While this has not been the start to the season that we had all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent and attitude as a collective to move in the right direction. I believe that it is only a matter of time before we are showing our true selves. It will come, I am certain.”

On the other hand, it is yet to be confirmed whether Raphael Varane is involved in the matchday squad this evening. He has not yet been pictured by club photography.

He was on the bench against Manchester City on Sunday and could be rested again tonight so that he’s fully fit for the Premier League game on the weekend.

Facundo Pellistri is another player who would’ve been expected to feature but has not yet been pictured at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Gore both played 90 minutes for the Under-21s in their EFL Trophy loss against Salford City on Tuesday evening.

There have been 20 United players confirmed so far in the matchday squad for this encounter, with both information from X account PlanetFaz and official club photography
