Confirmed Manchester United squad to face Brentford in Premier League clash
Manchester United face Brentford in the Premier League at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s men look to regain their top-four spot.
The Reds will be desperate to get back to winning ways after they returned from the international break with a poor result and performance at St James’ Park against Newcastle.
That defeat led to Ten Hag’s side slipping outside of the top four – albeit only on goal difference – for the first time since before the World Cup. However, a victory against The Bees could lift them back into the Champions League qualification spots.
It won’t be as simple as that, though. Brentford have lost just once in the Premier League since November and have a number of players that can cause United problems.
Despite some shaky form since the Carabao Cup final win in late February, Ten Hag believes that his team will be able to bounce back from their most recent defeat.
“So, we played 60 minutes against Southampton with 10 men. We beat Fulham [in the FA Cup], it’s a Premier League opponent,” he told reporters. “We beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, it’s a Premier League opponent, so there is no concern. We know we can beat Premier League teams.
“We are now in the final stage of the season so you have to be mentally and physically fit and that’s the responsibility everyone in the team has to take, then stick together, stick to the plan no matter what.”
Anthony Martial is again in the squad with the possibility of a first start for the Frenchman since January. The exciting Facundo Pellistri is also included and could make an impact this evening. Anthony Elanga misses out, however.
