Cole Palmer sends damning three-word message to Manchester United star after rejected request

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has sent a damning three word message to one Manchester United player after their request was rejected last week.

The summer transfer window closed earlier this week, with Manchester United ultimately completing most of their planned business.

Goalkeeper Senne Lammens was brought in on deadline day, while Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Højlund, and Antony all left the club.

Earlier in the window, United had already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Šeško, and Diego Leon, but manager Ruben Amorim was keen to add another goalkeeper to the squad.

The main disappointment from the window was the failure to bring in an additional midfielder, despite links to Carlos Baleba.

On the positive side, United managed to retain Kobbie Mainoo, who had asked to go out on loan due to concerns over limited playing time.

Mainoo’s request to leave on loan for the season was rejected by United chiefs, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe even involved in the decision making.

The 20-year-old was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad and has not appeared for his country since last September. This international break he has been working individually.

After uploading a variety of images on Instagram on Friday afternoon, Mainoo received a message from Cole Palmer in the replies.

The Chelsea star wrote, “3 [free] my boy”, which is clearly a suggestion that Mainoo needs to be ‘freed’ from the bench at Old Trafford.

It is damning for United that these suggestions can be made about their most talented young player, and they have to show Mainoo that it was the right decision to stay this season.

Mainoo starting is not complicated

Mainoo should be in the England squad. He was a standout performer in Euro 2024 – starting the final of the competition.

United have always had their players representing England over the years. There is currently one in Tuchel’s squad; Marcus Rashford, and he doesn’t even seem to have a future at Old Trafford.

Amorim has spoken recently about how he will be thinking about a lot of things during this international break. One of those things has to be how to get the best out of Mainoo.

Getting him in the midfield, especially in the deeper areas, will only be good for United, who struggle to play through the centre of the pitch.

It shouldn’t be too complicated either. Mainoo does not need specific circumstances to shine. He showed that under Erik ten Hag. He just needs a fair chance.
