Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ruben Amorim still has ‘full confidence’ in one Manchester United star despite exit rumours.
Manchester United still have a lot of work to do during this summer transfer window and a lot of the business will be focused on outgoings.
Getting quality players through the door – such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha – is also a priority, but United won’t be able to do that without making space in the budget.
The Reds also want to trim down the squad after failing to qualify for European competition and there are several players with the futures up in the air.
Mason Mount was thrown into those conversations this week after some reports suggested that a move was being planned for the midfielder this summer.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Amorim’s confidence in United star
Mount has been unable to recreate his best form at Old Trafford and that has mostly been down to injury troubles since his arrival in 2023.
However, he is a player who Ruben Amorim is fond of and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the player wants to stay at the club for next season.
The Italian journalist has stated that Amorim has full confidence in Mount and that the 26-year-old’s ‘clear intention’ is to remain at United while also having an ‘important’ pre-season.
“Mason Mount is planning to continue at Man United and have an important pre-season, being fully fit and working under Ruben Amorim,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“Amorim always had important words for Mason Mount during his first season as Manchester United coach, always showing his full confidence in the player.
“Now it’s about being fit and ready but the intention of Mason Mount is to stay at Manchester United… I can’t predict the future but as of today this is the clear intention of the player.”
Mount sale would bring no complaints
Mount is probably in the crop of players where most fans are not desperate for his sale but would have no complaints if it came around.
He has only been able to provide glimpses of his top form in a red shirt, with the best moment coming in the Europa League semi-final at the beginning of last month.
But that is not enough to convince fans and it feels like next season is probably his last chance to properly prove himself to the supporters.
So far, the deal has been a disappointment and Mount is fortunate that Amorim clearly likes him as a player so much.
