Christopher Vivell ‘pushing’ for Man Utd to appoint ‘genius’ manager amid Luis Enrique ‘decision’

With Manchester United set to appoint a new head coach in the summer, Christopher Vivell is pushing for the club to sign one target who he has previously worked with.

Michael Carrick’s start to life at Manchester United has gone better than anyone could have imagined after replacing Rúben Amorim in early January.

Reports at the start of the season indicated that INEOS’ target for this season was to secure European football, and Carrick has put the club in a position where they have a real chance of securing Champions League football, something many didn’t think possible towards the end of Amorim’s tenure.

The former United midfielder has recorded great victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur, climbing up to fourth in the Premier League table, just three points behind Aston Villa.

Despite this fantastic start to his tenure at United, Carrick is only in charge of the squad until the summer, with United searching for a permanent head coach to lead them next season.

Christopher Vivell pushing for Julian Nagelsmann

Despite being just 38 years old, Julien Nagelsmann is now in his tenth year of management, with experience at Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and now the German national team.

His real break-out onto the world stage came at RB Leipzig, where, in his tenure at the club, he turned them into a legitimate Bundesliga title contender, also achieving a run to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2020.

It is at RB Leipzig where Christopher Vivell, the current director of recruitment at United, and Nagelsmann worked together, and, as reported by GiveMeSport, Vivell has pushed for the club to pursue the 38-year-old.

The current Germany manager is believed to be interested in making the move to Old Trafford, and, depending on how deep Germany go in the World Cup in the summer, could be available after the tournament.

Described as a ‘genius’ by journalist Julian Laurens, Nagelsmann recently signed an extension with the national side, which would see his contract run until the 2028 Euros.

Luis Enrique set to snub United proposal

Previous reports named Luis Enrique as part of Manchester United’s manager shortlist for the summer, with the Spaniard’s CV being amongst the most impressive in European football.

The 55-year-old has won the Champions League with both FC Barcelona and PSG, also winning a further 17 major titles between the two clubs.

With reports coming out of France indicating that Enrique would not extend his contract in the capital past its 2027 expiry, the Spaniard has seemingly done a U-turn on his contractual situation, with The Mirror reporting that he’s opted to snub a move to United in favour of signing a new deal with PSG.

This will come as a major blow to United, with reports that United representatives travelled to Paris to hold talks.

The outlet reports that Enrique doesn’t believe that United is the right project for him, having reservations about joining a club that may not be playing Champions League football, but if Carrick’s excellent start to life at Old Trafford continues, then the Spaniard may once again change his mind.
