Christian Eriksen has revealed his future plans as he sends a strong contract message to Manchester United while on tour.

Christian Eriksen‘s tenure at Manchester United has been a mix of relative success and injury setbacks, leading to a diminished role under Erik ten Hag. In his initial six months at Old Trafford, Eriksen formed a formidable midfield trio with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

However, a January 2023 injury sidelined him for several months, and he has struggled to regain his place since then.

The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo last season has pushed Eriksen further down the pecking order at the club. Recent rumours suggest a potential loan move to Ajax this summer. Despite Denmark’s winless performance at the 2024 European Championships, Eriksen demonstrated that he still has plenty to offer as a creative midfielder.

However, with Fernandes being a key player for United, Eriksen’s opportunities in that position at Old Trafford remain limited.

In a new interview, despite his clear demotion from first-XI duties, Eriksen has demonstrated that he clearly wishes to stay at United for the duration of his contract, which expires in 2025.

“I want to play as long as possible,” the veteran Dane told reporters when asked about his future plans while in the USA.

“Now, I would say yes (to continue at an elite level), but in three years’ time, my mindset may be different, so that could be in the park or anywhere. There is a time and a place (for less game time), and I am not getting younger, but it doesn’t feel like I’m not getting younger.

“Mentally, I am still the same, but body-wise, in terms of games and how we play, sometimes it is good to have a rest, to be able to perform to 100%. I have one year left, so for me, I am a United player and for the last year as well.

“I haven’t been told [to] leave or [about an] extension. I feel good, my family is feeling good living in Manchester, and United is a nice club.”

However, Eriksen has also revealed that he has now started taking his coaching badges but that they have been put on hold while the squad have been on tour in the USA. “I started (the badges) a few weeks ago. We only did three sessions then we stopped,” he said.
