Chris Sutton makes “anything is possible” Liverpool vs Manchester United prediction, but fans will grimace
Chris Sutton has made a prediction that Manchester United fans will not like as he previews the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United face a formidable start to 2025 as they travel to Anfield on Sunday afternoon to take on Premier League leaders Liverpool in what could be their toughest game of the season.
While Arne Slot’s Liverpool dominate at the top of the table, United are in dire straits, sitting 14th and a precarious seven points above the relegation zone. Manager Rúben Amorim has described this as one of the darkest periods in the club’s recent history.
United’s form has been woeful, losing five of their last six league matches. Their struggles have included home defeats to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United, along with away losses to Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Though unlikely, a win at Anfield could provide a much-needed lifeline for United, offering hope and a clean slate as they aim to leave their disastrous 2024 behind.
Sutton’s grim prediction for Liverpool vs United
On BBC Sport, former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton always makes a go at predicting the weekend’s Premier League scores.
Known for being a little brutal, Sutton has made a prediction about the upcoming United tie that fans will not want to hear.
“Manchester United boss Amorim is talking about being in a relegation battle and you can see why,” he said.
“His side were torn apart in the first 30 minutes by Newcastle at Old Trafford on Monday, and why would anything be different at Anfield?
“Whoever Liverpool pick, they have got goals in their team and United have no chance of keeping them out.
“The scoreline won’t hit double figures but anything else is possible, and that is me being nice to United. Liverpool should demolish them, and they will demolish them – it is just a question of how many goals they get.
“United will play for pride, play for the badge and for the jersey, and all of that, but it won’t make any difference.
“Liverpool are in a different stratosphere at the moment and I feel sorry for Amorim because this is going to be another painful afternoon for him.”
Sutton went on to finalise his score prediction, where he felt Liverpool would defeat the Red Devils 5-0. Let’s hope not.
