Chris Sutton has made a shocking prediction for Manchester United’s FA Cup fixture against Fulham on Sunday afternoon has he singles out one club star.
Manchester United return to FA Cup action on Sunday as they host Fulham at Old Trafford in the fifth round.
Their journey in the competition has included a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Arsenal following a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, before a late Harry Maguire strike secured a 2-1 win against Leicester City.
Rúben Amorim’s side head into this clash after a 3-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town, though another unconvincing defensive display has kept concerns alive.
With United languishing in 14th place, winning the FA Cup appears to be their best chance of securing Europa League qualification—unless they can mount a deep European run and claim a Champions League spot.
Sutton’s shocking United vs Fulham prediction
As always, former Scottish striker Chris Sutton has predicted the weekend’s fixtures with BBC Sport, this time for the FA Cup fifth round.
Sutton is known for being a bit testy with United, and this week, he has clearly had enough, slamming Alejandro Garnacho for his actions against Ipswich, which some branded “pathetic”, while feeling Amorim’s team are going to get ripped apart by Fulham.
“I am sick of backing Manchester United,” Sutton said. “Even though they beat Ipswich on Wednesday, they did not half make hard work of it and the Tractor Boys ran them close at Old Trafford.
“Alejandro Garnacho appeared to have a bit of a hissy fit after being hooked before half-time, so it will be interesting to see how Rúben Amorim deals with that. He won’t have any players left at this rate if he decides to leave Garnacho out.
“United are the FA Cup holders and they have beaten Fulham home and away already this season but on both occasions it was far from convincing, and I don’t really care about that anyway.
“Amorim is a likeable guy, and I’ve got sympathy for him about the size of his task at Old Trafford but, from watching United, I cannot think of any reason to back them to win this.
“I am usually wrong about Fulham, but they are going to take this one – 100%.”
Sutton then went on to make the prediction that Fulham are going to smash United 3-0 at Old Trafford, which is a bit of a shock considering the games United have played against Fulham this season have been tight, both ending a 1-0 wins for the Reds.
United do better in cup competitions
So far, under Amorim, United have shown a knack for playing better in competitions away from the Premier League.
They’ve won all their Europa League fixtures under the head coach so far, while beating both Arsenal and Leicester City in the FA Cup.

The club’s only cup competition loss has come against Tottenham Hotspur, and even then, United still scored three goals away from home in North London.
United have shown resilience and good football in cup competitions, coming from behind in the Europa League and against Leicester and managed to hold Arsenal to a draw and defeat them on penalties despite playing with ten men for 60 minutes.
It feels as if Sutton has not factored this in. However, as is always true with the FA Cup, anything can happen.
