Chris Sutton believes that two of Manchester United’s current stars have proved him right as he predicts Rúben Amorim’s visit to Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United are in outstanding form as Rúben Amorim readies his side for a Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
Amorim’s team have put together three consecutive victories, beating Sunderland 2-0, edging Liverpool 2-1, and cruising past Brighton 4-2 at Old Trafford last weekend.
Forest, in contrast, have endured a difficult season so far, already appointing their third manager of the campaign with Sean Dyche now in charge.
United’s recent surge has lifted them to sixth in the Premier League, moving ahead of Liverpool, while Forest sit 18th with just five points from nine games — setting up a lively and hard-fought clash at The City Ground.
Sutton feels United’s winning streak will end
With United having won three games on the bounce, there is cautious optimisim around the club that they could make it four wins from four in nottingham on Satruday aftenroon.
Former Chelsea striker has told BBC Sport that he feels Forest could have enough to stop Amorim’s Reds, although new stars Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have proven him correct about their impact at Old Trafford.
“The Nottingham Forest fans seem to be happy with Sean Dyche as manager, and I think they will be patient with him – he has that affiliation with the club after starting his playing career there,” Sutton said. “I think they might have to wait a bit longer for his first Premier League win, though.
“Manchester United have picked up a bit, and Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are proving me right after I said in the summer they would prove to be great signings.
“They bring great variation when they play together – Mbeumo runs in behind, while Cunha comes deep looking for the ball to feet – and they both link the attack so well. Defensively, there are still problems with United, however.
“They have put together a three-game winning streak but they are not at the stage where I trust them to turn up every week, and I can see that run coming to an end here.”
Sutton then predicted the game to end with a 1-1 draw, although BBC’s AI stated the most likely outcome is a 2-1 win for Amorim’s men away from home.
United must be wary of Forest’s transitional threat
Earlier this week, Amorim admitted that his upcoming opponents had “very good” players at their disposal, namely Morgan Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, while he labelled Sean Dyche as a “very clever” manager.
When assessing Forest ahead of the game, Amorim noted that the greatest threat he feels the home side will pose is through their transitions.
“I think they will try to make transitions,” the United boss commented on Thursday. “We lost there in one transition [last season]. We need to be really focused on every detail of the game.
“We need to understand that we are not going to have the space to play like we have against Liverpool or against Brighton, even against Sunderland. It’s going to be a different game, and we need to be prepared for that feeling that is going to be tough to get inside the final third, but we are ready for that.”
