Chido Obi-Martin takes important ‘next step’ during international break after Man Utd talks

Chido Obi-Martin has taken an important ‘next step’ during the international break with Denmark’s under-18s after talks with Manchester United were detailed.
Manchester United completed the signing of Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal earlier this year, following a prolonged Premier League ratification process during the summer.
Obi-Martin made his debut in mid-October, coming off the bench against Sunderland U18s, and soon after earned his first start in a home match against Nottingham Forest.
He wasted no time making an impression, scoring a hat-trick within just 14 minutes. His sensational performance instantly caught the attention of United fans, and he was substituted at halftime, having already made a significant impact.
Since then, Obi-Martin has made several more appearances for United’s youth teams but had not completed a 90 minute game.
United had been taking things slowly with the 16-year-old who did not get a full pre-season in the summer and made sure to keep in close contact with Denmark’s youth team during the international break.
“He has not yet played 90 minutes [for United Under-18s], but he is close, and we are in close cooperation with United in relation to having all his physical data sent over, and looking at how he has played,” Denmark U18s boss Morten Esksen told TipsBladet last week.
Esksen also explained that the next steps for the teenager was to complete a full 90 minute game.
“He wants to be able to go 90 minutes now. That’s his next step and he might do it for us in the next few games,” he added.
Now, that task has been completed after the goalscorer played 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Finland on Friday, scoring the only goal for his team in the game.
With the youngster set to return to Carrington this coming week, he will be glad to finally have a full 90 minutes under his belt and will want to build that momentum into games with the United academy.
Despite only making a handful of appearances so far, it already seems clear that Obi-Martin is beyond the Under-18s level and needs to further his development with the Under-21s squad in the PL2.
