Manchester United will hope to sanction several sales in the coming weeks as the start of the new Premier League season approaches.
Manchester United are shifting their focus to the final three signings of the summer as Rúben Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford.
The club have already completed deals for Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo. Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to form two-thirds of a new-look attacking trio, while 18-year-old Leon will operate as understudy to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu at left wing-back.
With five weeks remaining in the transfer window, United are targeting an experienced centre-forward, a defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper to compete with André Onana.
RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško has emerged as their top target for the striker position. Although the sale of players like Alejandro Garnacho may still be explored, reports suggest United would not need to generate funds through departures in order to complete a deal for Šeško.
Chelsea are “convinced” about Garnacho
Earlier this week, reports revealed that Chelsea had conducted background diligence about Garnacho and that, despite a few disciplinary issues, they did not find any concerns surrounding the potential signing.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea remain seriously interested in Garnacho and view him as a strong opportunity for this summer.
Romano explains on his YouTube channel that the winger is “a name being mentioned on a daily basis” within the club, with the Champions League club continuing to monitor his situation closely and maintain contact to stay informed.
Romano emphasises that Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League, despite links to clubs in Italy, Saudi Arabia, and Bayer Leverkusen. Chelsea are well aware of this and remain firmly in the race.
While there are ongoing discussions around valuation, including how much United will demand, Garnacho is seen internally at Chelsea as a player worth pursuing.
Romano also addressed speculation over Garnacho’s attitude or salary demands, stating that Chelsea are “quite convinced” he represents a good opportunity. However, any potential move will likely depend on Chelsea’s ability to manage their outgoings in the coming weeks.
Garnacho’s sale unlocks United’s market freedom
With United spending around £130 million on their three signings so far, if the club want to secure players in their other three position areas, they need to raise funding from sales, even if a striker signing can be covered with their current finances.
Having moved Marcus Rashford off the wage books with his season-long loan to Barcelona, Garnacho’s possible sale would free up significant funding to sign their first-choice striker, Šeško.
RB Leipzig are reportedly demanding an overall package of around £70 million for the player, including a £64 million guaranteed fee, although United will be hoping that the relationship of Christopher Vivell, the club’s current director of recruitment, with Red Bull’s decision makers can smooth negotiations.
Amorim will no doubt be keen to see Šeško join United in the coming two weeks as he prepares his side for the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign, with Arsenal to visit Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 August.
