Casemiro’s signing for Manchester United has been nothing short of perfect for Erik ten Hag.

Having been bought for a fee of around £60 million from Real Madrid in the summer, he has been a mainstay in Manchester United’s team from the moment Erik ten Hag first started him.

Casemiro scored seven goals and provided a further six assists last season, which only added to his fantastic performances at the base of midfield.

However, despite the name “Casemiro” having being synonymous with world class performances in the Premier League, the Brazilian midfielder has explain that that name actually has an incorrect spelling.

“So the thing is, my name is Carlos Enrique Casimiro, with an “I” there,” he explained to BBC’s Match of the Day midway through last term.

“I remember that I played a game for Sao Paulo and the club got my name wrong. They wrote it with an “E”.

“I played really well in that game and as I’m a superstitious person I just said to them ‘just leave it like that, as things are going well.’

“So the name stuck, but my name is Carlos Enrique Casimiro. It was a mistake made in one game, the name stuck and I said: ‘No need to change it, leave it as it is’.”

Casemiro will be looking to continue his impressive performances next season alongside a new midfield partner.

Mason Mount signed for The Reds at the beginning of July and will likely take a position alongside the Brazilian in the midfield in place of Christian Eriksen.

He is set to make his unofficial debut for the club in the opening pre-season friendly against Leeds United next Wednesday. However, Casemiro will not be available for that encounter after being granted additional time off with the rest of United’s international players.
