Casemiro has made a rather stunning claim about his best-ever season following his statement surrounding his future at Manchester United amid transfer speculation.

Against Tottenham Hotspur, Casemiro found himself starting for Manchester United for the first time in over two months, playing 89 minutes during a 1-0 defeat in North London.

Before the loss, Casemiro had started just one of United’s last ten matches under Rúben Amorim, featuring sparingly in that period and remaining an unused substitute in many ties since the head coach’s arrival.

The former Brazilian international joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for £60 million and was outstanding in his debut season under Erik ten Hag.

The 32-year-old played a crucial role in United’s Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle United in February 2023, scoring the opener before Marcus Rashford added a second. That season, he made 53 appearances, registering seven goals and seven assists.

However, recurring injury issues have impacted his form, and under Amorim, he has fallen down the midfield pecking order.

Casemiro makes transfer admission

Casemiro has been subject to transfer speculation in the last few months, with many feeling the player’s career is nearing an end at Old Trafford, with those such as Flamengo and Roma keen on signing him on loan, although both deals failed to materialise.

United are reportedly looking to offload him if possible due to his wages of over £300,000 a week, which are draining the club’s resources.

However, in a new interview with Spanish outlet AS, the 32-year-old has confirmed he would like to stay at the club until his contract expires.

“I have to keep doing what I’m doing, with a lot of respect and education. Of course I’d like to play more, of course,” he explained. “I don’t know any player who doesn’t want to play and help.

“Also, I’d like to help the club at this time. I approach things with respect for my teammates and the technical committee. And above all, I respect United, a club to which I’m very grateful. I have a year and a half left on my contract and I’d like to fulfil it here in Manchester.

“I’m comfortable here, and so is my family. They’ve adapted, we speak English. I’m very grateful to the Old Trafford fans and to the club. I’m happy at club level. Happy in the dugout? Of course not. That’s another thing.”

Casemiro make a stunning admission

Casemiro was signed by United for his experience, having won five Champions League titles and numerous other accolades during his time at Los Blancos.

However, in a rather stunning claim, he believes that, from an individual perspective, the season he played his best football was under Ten Hag during his inaugural campaign at the club.

“Looking at my career, individually, my best season as a professional footballer was the first with United,” he said. “I’m not saying collectively in terms of titles. Madrid’s Champions League is the ultimate, but as a player, I think Old Trafford saw the best Casemiro in my first year.”

Casemiro’s form during 2022/23 was fantastic. Despite playing as a deep midfielder, he scored seven goals and provided seven assists. He was integral to United winning the Carabao Cup, scoring in the final, as well as helping United to finish third in the league.
