Casemiro: How I want to be known at Manchester United
Casemiro wants to help bring Manchester United back to the top and has the opportunity to help The Reds win their first trophy in six years on Sunday.
Whilst the Carabao Cup is not quite extraordinary for a five-times Champions League winner, the way that Casemiro has conducted himself at Old Trafford so far, it is a given that he will be striving to win the cup like it is his first.
The Brazilian joined United at the start of the season, coming into the fold after several games had been played.
Despite being one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, Casemiro patiently waited for his chance to impress as he remained on the bench in the opening weeks of his time with the club. Once he came in, no one wanted him to come out.
He might be the most important player for Erik ten Hag and his mentality is crucial to the development of the team going forward. From turning into a team that can challenge.
“I want to be known here as a player who wins championships,” he told United’s official website. “That’s the most important thing. Regardless if we win or not, because we know it’s hard to win titles, especially in the Premier League, where all games are tough.
“But I want to win titles and important games here. It’s not easy. We know that. Especially because we’re talking about the most difficult league in the world. But that’s what I want to be known for.”
The Carabao Cup final against Newcastle provides a platform for United this season. Confidence will increase and The Reds would surely be eyeing the chance for a second trophy at the end of the season.
However, Eddie Howe’s men are no pushovers and The Reds will need to ensure they are fully prepared for the game. Having characters like Casemiro in the midfield gives you confidence that will be the case.
