Casemiro could be set for U-turn on Manchester United future after recent developments

After an impressive start to the season, Manchester United could offer Casemiro a new deal after rumours of a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Rúben Amorim made several high-profile signings in the summer transfer window, who have already had a big impact on the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have meant that Bruno Fernandes has moved deeper in the midfield, lining up as a number eight, rather than as a ten, where he has shone since arriving in January 2020.

This decision to move him deeper has meant that Kobbie Mainoo has struggled for minutes this season despite his fantastic form under Erik ten Hag during the 2023/24 campaign.

Man Utd also let a number of notable players leave Old Trafford, including the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Casemiro was a name linked with a move away over the summer, but has impressed so far this season, and the club are set to U-turn on their decision.

Casemiro could be in line for a new contract

After impressing in his debut season after joining in the 2022/23 season, Casemiro struggled in a United shirt. Despite his struggles, he was pivotal in United’s run to the Europa League final, assisting twice in United’s epic comeback against Lyon.

Having faced criticism, it looked likely that the Brazilian would leave the club in the summer window just gone, or leave on a free next summer, where Saudi Arabia looked a likely destination.

However, as The Athletic reports, after his return to regular action and happiness in Manchester, the 33-year-old, who has now become a key player in Amorim’s side, is not looking beyond Old Trafford just yet.

With Casemiro currently being on a reported £300,000 per week, there’s little to no chance that United would trigger the option to extend his deal for a further year on the same weekly wage, but there is certainly the possibility that a new deal could be negotiated.

Casemiro is an important dressing room figure

As the club’s transfer strategy shifts to signing younger and more inexperienced players, as seen by the signings of Leny Yoro and Diego León, Casemiro could prove to be an invaluable figure in the dressing room alongside the other experienced dressing room figures.

To bounce back from serious scrutiny from the English media and seeing his performances improve shows that he has the mentality and resilience traits that would be greatly beneficial for the younger players trying to break through into the first team.

Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner, won many honours during his time at Real Madrid, and that winning mentality could also be a key trait to try and pass on to the rest of the dressing room, as United continue to look to change their fortunes around.

Despite rumours of a move to Saudi Arabia, United should do all they can to keep hold of the experienced centre-back who has become a key figure in the dressing room.
