Bryan Robson makes controversial Bruno Fernandes claim after Man Utd criticism, his point is spot on

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has made a controversial claim about the current club captain Bruno Fernandes after he received criticism.

Bruno Fernandes is currently the Manchester United captain and while many supporters absolutely love him, the Portuguese star can split opinion.

Even though he scored 19 goals last season, while also providing 19 assists, Fernandes received criticism as United finished 15th in the Premier League.

Former United captain Roy Keane was one of the pundits to slam Fernandes and his criticism was widespread and mentioned in various press conferences and interviews to both Fernandes and Ruben Amorim.

Fernandes refused to hit back at the ex-United captain, even after he entered into some exceptional form towards the end of the campaign.

Robson makes controversial Fernandes claim

Keane is one of the most loved United legends but many fans believed that his outburst about Fernandes was painfully misplaced, especially with how he suggested the 30-year-old did not track back enough.

Bryan Robson is another United legend and perhaps the only former captain who is preferred to Keane by many supporters who were old enough to watch him at Old Trafford.

Captain Marvel has addressed Keane’s criticism of Fernandes and controversially claimed that it has helped the current United captain, especially with how he responded to the situation.

“Now, as far as the captaincy goes, I think Roy Keane did Bruno a favour when he criticised him on TV and said he wasn’t a real captain and all this sort of thing,” Robson told the ‘United! United! United!’ YouTube channel.

“But you know, instead of reacting and Bruno saying, you know, having a war with Roy Keane, a war of words, in the media and everything, I thought it was a great answer when Bruno said, you know, look, I’ll take on board what Roy Keane said and try and improve.

“And I really do think he’s [Bruno] took it on board [Keane’s criticism].”

Robson’s point is spot on

While Robson’s stance may be seen as controversial, the point he raised makes complete sense.

Fernandes’ handling of the criticism was perfect and earned him praise amongst United supporters. It was the perfect example of how a United player should deal with that kind of situation.

We all know others wouldn’t have done the same. Fernandes did his talking on the pitch and also seems to be improving as a captain behind the scenes.

“And Bruno now, I know that he gets players together for a meal and he started that at the end of last season,” continued Robson.

“He’s continued it [the meal] this season and he knows how important it is to get the group of players together and have a real camaraderie.”
