Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has backed Ruben Amorim for long-term success at the club, and even stated that he ‘needs three years’ at Old Trafford.
Since joining the club in 2024, Ruben Amorim has struggled to find his way at Manchester United, but it appears that the side’s patience may be starting to pay off.
With three wins and a draw in his last four Premier League fixtures, the Reds have climbed the table into eighth, currently sitting on 17 points.
For the first time in many years, the Reds can be entirely happy with their summer recruitment, with Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens arguably being the key successes from the window.
The public perception of United’s Portuguese coach has flipped recently due to the club’s improved form, and legendary Red Devil Bryan Robson has even given his backing.
Robson demands Amorim patience
Robson has stated that Amorim needs time at Old Trafford and suggested that a three-year period is the right length of time to give the Portuguese boss.
This is something that Sir Jim Ratcliffe came out with in a recent interview when the heat was on Amorim due to poor results.
Speaking at the North West Football Awards, via BBC, Robson said, “I’ve loved the few signings he’s had so far – Mbeumo, [Matheus] Cunha – they really are good players and improving the players we’ve already got anyway.
“I can see us going upwards and really establishing a decent team, which we need to do after the disappointment of last year.
“I’ve been a manager, and when I went to Middlesbrough, I always said – I need three years to put an authority and a stamp on the team that I want, because you can sell and bring players in to adopt the system that you want.”
The infamous United legend then said that, “The manager needs three years to sort of get the team where he wants them to be.”
Robson praises the fans
In receiving his Lifetime Achievement award, Robson looked back on his time at the club and heaped praise on the club’s culture, history and fanbase.
“When I was signed by Manchester United and the 13 years at the club, it was just a fantastic club to play for,” he said. “We won so much as well, and that was always my dream of winning things.

“But then after that, to sort of be a manager and be an ambassador of United – 19 years I have been an ambassador for Manchester United now, and time just flies. But they’ve been fantastic years and I’ve just loved every minute of it.
“The fans never stop, they are brilliant and always have been fantastic with me, and I appreciate all the support they have given me.”
