Bryan Mbeumo shows true colours with four-word response to Liverpool boos, it’s what Manchester United have missed

Bryan Mbeumo has shown his true colours with a four-word response to Liverpool’s boos as Manchester United secured a brilliant Anfield win.

Manchester United produced a superb performance to beat Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, as Rúben Amorim’s men earned a vital three points at Anfield.

United made a dream start, taking the lead inside two minutes when Bryan Mbeumo slotted home beautifully from a tight angle after being played through by Amad. Bruno Fernandes later missed a golden chance to extend the lead, but Amorim’s side still went into the interval ahead.

Liverpool came out firing after the break, with Cody Gakpo striking the post as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. Around the hour mark, Amorim introduced Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Benjamin Šeško to refresh his team’s energy.

Gakpo eventually levelled the score with just over ten minutes to play, but United quickly responded as Harry Maguire rose highest to head home and restore the advantage.

Arne Slot’s side threw everything forward in the closing stages, but United held firm to claim their first win at Anfield since January 2016.

Mbeumo shuts down fans after Liverpool boos

While much of the coverage will rightly be on Maguire’s fantastic winning header, a lot of credit must go to Mbeumo for his ability to get United in front so quickly.

It was a moment that allowed the full squad to fill themselves with a brilliant sense of confidence and belief that the game was theirs for the taking, and the Cameroon international’s tireless work paid off in spades throughout the 90 minutes.

When asked about how it felt to net a goal away at Anfield so early into the tie, Mbeumo admitted that “it was quite good” to knock the Liverpool fans down a peg after a series of jeers and booing in the opening moments.

“Yeah, it felt really good, obviously, because, as I said, they were screaming, they were booing from the start, and just covering in front of them and seeing that they were crying, it was quite good,” the 26-year-old told MUTV.

“But I think it’s more a team win today.”

Mbeumo’s response is exactly what United have missed

With just one quote, Mbeumo has demonstrated to absolute perfection why his mentality and persona are exactly what United have missed over the recent years.

So often over the last decade, those who have joined United have folded under the pressure, sometimes looking for an escape or being moved on within a few years after not living up to expectations at Old Trafford.

However, Mbeumo’s response to the cauldron atmosphere that Anfield attempted to create of scoring so early on, stretching his arms out wide, and admitting after the game that it was “quite good” but still pointing out that the most crucial winner was his team, is something short of perfect.

United seem to finally have themselves a bona fide brilliant winger who can take a chance, shoulder the pressure, and come out on top, and that could very well change the club’s long-term fortunes.
