Bryan Mbeumo sends ‘deserved’ message to Man Utd fans after Arsenal defeat, Ruben Amorim learned three things

Bryan Mbeumo has sent a message to Manchester United fans following the Premier League defeat to Arsenal on the weekend.

Manchester United opened their Premier League campaign with a defeat to Arsenal, though Ruben Amorim’s side produced an encouraging performance.

Bryan Mbeumo posed early threats down the right, but it was Arsenal who struck first when Riccardo Calafiori rose to head in Declan Rice’s corner.

United responded well, with Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo both testing David Raya, yet the Gunners held on to their advantage going into the break.

Amorim made changes after the interval, bringing on Amad for Diogo Dalot in the 55th minute before introducing Benjamin Šeško and Manuel Ugarte to add fresh legs.

The hosts pressed hard in the closing stages, with Cunha brought down in the box by William Saliba, but Arsenal stood firm to secure the victory.

Despite failing to score a goal in the game, it is clear that the additions of Cunha and Mbeumo, as well as Šeško, will help the Reds find the back of the net more often this term.

Cunha might have been the standout in the game for United but Mbeumo also looked dangerous and came close to scoring on multiple occasions.

The Cameroon international took to Instagram after the game to send a message to United supporters, who he thinks ‘deserved more’ from the game.

“Not the start we wanted but we stay positive for the next one,” wrote Mbeumo. “Thank you for the huge support today from the start til the end. You deserved so much more today.”

Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro were among those to like the post, and the entire squad will be hoping to replicate that performance with a victory against Fulham next weekend.

Three takeaways from Mbeumo’s debut

Mbeumo was one of the best players in the Premier League last season and there were three main takeaways for Amorim from his first competitive display in United colours.

Firstly, it feels like the 26-year-old needs a little more sharpness inside the box to get his shots away, which was one of his best attributes last term. He clearly needs some extra time to get fully up to speed.

But that lack of sharpness inside the area didn’t impact his general play, and his ability to protect the ball when receiving under pressure is unbelievable and a real asset to the team.

He is also set to play more with Amad going forward after the Ivorian made a positive impact off the bench against the Gunners.

But those two do need to build a better relationship when entering the final third. That will come though, as they have spent less than 200 minutes on a pitch together.
